(New Haven Museum, November 2016)
Curated by historic preservationist, architectural historian and author Mary Donohue, “Road Trip!” includes memorabilia from resources such as the Museum of Connecticut History, historical societies, private collectors and more.
The exhibit spotlights photographs of roadside architecture taken by nationally recognized architectural historian Richard Longstreth in the 1970’s including iconic diners, gas stations, motels, and roadside attractions that were constructed to serve the motoring public.
From early stages of conception and planning, the design was inspired by the kitschy and retro feel of 50s roadside signage. This exhibit included an interactive “talkback” wall and an iPad of additional images.
